For those who are reading. sorry that I have not posted since my first. We have had a very busy week. Over the last week, we have spent every bit of time that has not been spent working at our house. We finished pulling staples out of the kitchen floor. Thank goodness Jared helped me with the rest. I love that man even more everyday!! Did I mention he is a very handy man? Anyways, I sanded walls while Jared re-dry walled more walls than we had planned, but nothing is ever how it seems.
The weekend was full of new things. Saturday we started early. I painted the ceilings in the dining room. I had never done this before, and I can't say it was that great. It is done. My arms ached following, but then I took a break and went to dance. Jared stayed and worked more on dry wall. The dining room was already primed from a previous day, so when I returned I found my mom and husband with the first coat of the dining room colors. It was beautiful and felt like such an accomplishment. We finished the dining room painting except for trim and then primed the living room. Not bad for one day's work.
Sunday, we started at the pet expo looking for a new addition to our family. We returned tonight and found a black lab puppy but is not available for adoption until Saturday. Anyways, Sunday we returned to the house to paint more. We painted the living room and primed the kitchen. Jared and my dad ripped things out of the master bath. Jared dry walled again. By the end of Sunday with paint on the walls it was starting to look like a house again. We called it a night before 8 and headed out for Mexican.
Monday, my mom and I returned to the house. I was there by myself for a little while, so I worked on priming the upper window in the entry and over the closet. I really had to talk myself into getting on the ladder and then getting myself up to the window. Oh well, I did it. Then, I started on the second coat in the living room. I love the color, and it only took five to find it. Once my mom arrived, I took a small bathroom break or at least tried. I walked to the bathroom only to find some toilet paper, so I flushed and it was clogged. Water was starting to come out the top and sides, but mom came to the rescue with paper towels and a trash bag. I however was left with a full bladder and making a trip up the street to Burger King for bathroom facilities. No one said that home ownership would be a walk in the park! LOL!! I went back to the house and finished the day by painting the kitchen with the first coat. My mom decided to do the trim on our very tall ceilings and don't know how she did it, but she did it maybe some hanging on the banister/cabinets? Not sure. Finally, to really end Monday Jared and I ended up at Lowe's purchasing our very first appliances, which are all Samsung and energy star efficient minus the stove and microwave on the energy efficient. So, we bought them during tax free week, with coupons, and got a rebate. We got a great deal.
As for the rest of the week, we have hardwood floors to be laid Saturday, bedrooms to paint, and kitchen to finish painting, lots of trim work, and what ever other things decide to pop up. As for me I am headed to bed after a long day. Have a wonderful night!

New Beginnings
Hello to family and friends and those who I have never met. My name is Amanda and my husband is Jared. We were married this past October and from there it has been a great beginning with many challenges and triumphs over the past few months. We recently bought our first home. By recently, I mean we closed Friday April 10, 2010. From there the demolition began on our new home. The home was a foreclosure which is presenting with many projects including demo of the living room, dining room, and kitchen floors which are soon to be replaced with hardwood floors and new paint after new dry wall is installed in some areas. Other projects to be completed are the master bathroom, which right now is completely gutted. The other rooms will need new paint and some tender loving care.
Friday we made our first trip to Home Depot buying some paint samples and new locks. We went to our new home for the first time as the owners. We replaced the locks and put some paint on the walls in the dining room, living room, kitchen and entry way. We are still undecided. Who said choosing a paint color would be easy. Our first visitors arrived early evening. Jared's mom and her friends stopped by. The took a walk through and then treated us to dinner. Since Jared and I had both worked the night before closing, we had not slept so after dinner we went home and straight to bed.
Demo day started Saturday. We tore up all the carpet in the living room and dining room. I pulled the staples out of the sub floor while Jared took off the baseboards and the wood paneling for painting. Then we both tackled the kitchen floor, which used to be laminate flooring. I pulled and he scraped. The first layer was easy, but the second layer was more of a challenge. All the staples from the first layer were stuck in the second layer. So, we headed to home depot for a floor scraper, the dining room paint, and some painting supplies. The floor scraper was 30.00, but in my husband's eyes it was money well spent. He went back to tackling the floor, while me and my mom sanded the walls in the living room where the paneling had been. No luck with sanding the previous owners used liquid nails which turned gooey upon sanding. Plan B Jared took out the wall and replaced with new! Thank you love!! The floor scraper tended to work well but by 9:00pm Jared was exhausted and we decided to call it a night.
On Sunday afternoon, we went back to the house. Jared finished tearing up the floor in the kitchen and the entryway while mom and I patched the smaller holes throughout the living room, dining room, entry, and kitchen. I also sanded the trim in the rooms to get ready to paint. We got much accomplished in the 4-5hrs we were there. It is starting to look like a different house.
On Tuesday morning, Jared and I went back over for a hour and a half. I pulled the staples out of the sub floor in the kitchen while Jared replaced dry wall. I only got about 1/3 of the kitchen floor done in that time. There have to be like a 1000 staples in that floor. Lets just say the floor wins and my hand well, is full of blisters. Anyways, planning to go back tomorrow!! Goodnight!
